Restoran Ang Hoay Lor Restaurant

Recommended by Ah Luar for first stop lunch. It's a Hokkien restaurant which famous with their hokkien specialty dishes. It is one of the authentic restaurant in Penang. It's an old restaurant with home style feeling and authentic feel when you step in.

First we have Fried Tang Hoon topped with prawns and oysters. The noodles are fried with wok hei feel and tasted smooth as its' look. The beautiful strands of the noodles makes the foods look appetizing.

Next we have Bak Kee Soup. As you can see from the picture, the pieces of meat that are coated with corstarch and deep fried before cooked in a starcy soup with cabbage. The soup was very strong flavored and it taste delicious. A small bowl of it will be just nice for me. Too much of it will turned out to be otherwise. The meat is tender and crunchy on the outer layer.

Not forgetting the famous fried oyster which taste different from the ones i tried in Singapore or JB. This is more sticky type and the oysters are fresh as well. Kudos when you have it with their chilli sauce.

Lastly, Fried Oyster mee which has the yellow noodles with pork, prawns, vegetables and oyster. The gravy was indeed blend well with the combination and enjoyed the yellow noodles with the gravy.

Total lunch is around RM68 for 4 pax include a pot of tea. If you wish to try them out, be prepared to wait for more than 20 minutes for the foods to be served. We were like hungry ghosts when the foods are served. The waiting time is always painful as we need to wait for 2 tables' dishes are served. We are served by elderly so you can guess the speed is a bit slower than youngsters. It's family business i guess because they all worked like family.

Jojo Little Kitchen Pan Mee

It has been 2years since i last tried KL famous chilli pan mee. The first time I tried the noodles was on my first job in KL 2 years back which is located at Restaurant Kin Kin @ off Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman. It is actually nearby to my office back then. Since then the chilli pan mee business is booming.

Rui brought me to Jojo Little Kitchen instead. He said it is famous with it too. So we headed over for dinner before we headed back to Singapore. We went to the subang jaya branch and i saw few other shops that are selling chilli pan mee too but their business is not as good as Jojo Little Kitchen.

Chilli pan mee isn't just the normal noodles as you see. The secret is the dry fried chilli flakes but go easy with amount you going to take. It is super duper spicy! But you will be amazed with the taste when you mix it with the noodles, egg yolks and silver anchories. Never estimate the power of dry chili flakes.
Lat Jiu Pan Mee (Dry) @ RM6.50 per serving

Vegetable soup @ RM3 per serving.
Simple vegetables soup to clear the spicy throat.

Elaine ordered Knife cut noodles (Dried prawns soup) @ RM6.80 per serving
Clear soup base with the firm knife cut noodles brings out the aroma of the hot pipping noodles. It taste extremely warm when you have it during rainny days.

Porkball soup @ RM5 for 6pcs of porkball.
No much comment of it. The soup base are taste alike with vegetable soups.

The serving time was fast within 15 minutes i would say so.
Fret not to go with empty stomach but just don't finish up the bottle of chilli flakes that may you go red!

Chinatown Seng Kee, Kuala Lumpur

November has been a busy month from the start. I spend my first weekend of the month at Kuala Lumpur. Thanks to rui for his hospitality over the weekend. We reached KL around 10plus and we headed to chinatown Seng Kee located at Jalan Sultan, Petaling Jaya Street. The last time i had them was 1-2 years ago with Sin Yee if my memory never fails me.

The kitchen is just by the road side and the ingredients and kitchen utensils are all prepared outside. So, if you are concern with hygiene, you might want to think twice.
But the foods are as good as it taste.

The famous Lao Shu Fen (Rice noodles) with raw egg.
It's their signature dish and very rich with their ingredients. It is served with claypot and pipping hot. The minced meats are covered on top of the rice noodles and when it mix together with the raw eggs, it taste delicious. The texture is smooth and Q as the raw egg are mixed together and cover the first layer of the rice noodles. It can just slipped through the chopsticks.

Another famous signature dish- Siew Yuk Noodles.
The noodles are wantan mee or also known as sang meen which topped with siew yuk and cooked with dark soy sauce. It's superb dark, greasy with the siew yuk( fried roast pork) and lotsa garlic mixed together with the noodle. I don't really favor it as it is greasy and oily for me

Too much of the oily, greasy and meaty dishes, we ordered a plate of vegetable to go with it.
No much comment on the vegetables but it's truly chewy and fresh.

As for the price wise, i personally think is affordable. It's around RM10++ per pax for the dishes and drinks we ordered. Absolutely worth trying KL signature dish which open for business for late nights. There are always people come here purposely to have it for supper after their clubbing sessions or whatever reason.

No proper address found in website. So if you wish to give it a try, take a left immediately after Nando's when you are heading towards Petaling Street (Jalan Sultan). Just keep heading straight and you will see the restaurant at the end on your right side.
Good Luck!!

Nanxiang Steamed Bun Restaurant @ Bugis Junction

It was a dinner date with Mr Yap & Mrs Yap last week. So sorry for making them to wait for us like 2 hours time for dinner. Yap decided to try this restaurant called Nanxiang Steamed Bun Restaurant located at 2nd Floor of Bugis Junction.

We decided to go for their Set D which costs S$138++ for 4 pax. It is just nice for 4 of us.
Foods that we had on that day:-

Shanghai spicy soup which looks spicy from the picture but in actual fact it is not as spicy as I thought. I love the taste of the soup especially when you drink them while they are hot.

As usual, a must for dinner dish- Vegetables.

Special sauce chicken which i forget the actual name of this dish. It has the unique taste which smooth layer on the meat itself and sweetness flavored when you taste them.

The Duck meat that is cooked after the skin is served with the crepe.

We choose noodles instead of rice. Although the noodles looks normal and not that appealing but trust me. The taste proves that we can never judge the appearance of the presentation. Although first impression may widen your appertizer.

Peking Duck Skin Wrapped with egg crepe.
As usual, taste is cunchy because of the crispy skin and also the slices of spring onion to go with it. A little bit of special sweet sauce does the trick to make the taste perfect :)

The dinner ended with mango pudding as the dessert.
The whole set is quite filling as 3 out of 4 are ladies and our appertize is not as big as guys.
So, yap finish mostly of the foods.

After our dinner, we headed for the dessert shop located at Liang Seah Street.
To be continue in the next post..

Eminent Frog Porridge @ Geylang Lorong 19

Photo uploaded to instagram on the frog leg porridge that i had with Yunita & her husband. This is the first time ever Yunita recommended a place to have dinner. It is an impromptu dinner as well because i went to be Yunita & her husband 'light bulb' for the night. Newly weds want to have private time together but I just tagged along!Haha!

This is the famous Eminent Frog Leg Porridge recommended at the website as well. It is located at Lorong 19 Geylang which is surprising full of people. Geylang is always known as red district lanes with legal prostitution but it is also known for the famous frog leg porridge. We saw the reviews for this restaurant at Lorong 19.

They are having "buy 2 get 1 free " for $16 promotion. 1 frog leg costs $8 so we opt for the promotion. So we ordered plain porridge with kung pao and spring onions style. We also add on dishes to complete the dinner. Kang Kong as our vegetable choice for the day.

Plain and tastless porridge to go with the frog leg dishes. The combination is great as the sauce of the kung pao and spring onion blend well with the tasteless porridge. It lighten up the plain look of the porridge.

We also ordered Salted Egg with crab which is Yunita's husband favourite. It's his first time trying this dish and he is loving it. He thanks me for the recommendation. The crab meat is fresh and juicy in the inner shell crab and the crab shell covered with salted eggs which thumbs up!He is licking his fingers over it.

The salted egg is liquid type here in Singapore compared to the ones i tried in Malaysia. Nevertheless the taste is still sweet and salty combination that licks your fingers away. But the price for the crab is quite pricey though.

Dinner was around S$70 plus for 3 persons. It is quite affordable except for the crab. The crab price is go by the weight of the crab. It was a pleasant dinner and Yunita's husband had a satisfied dinner during his visit in singapore.

Tian Wai Tian Fish Head Steamboat

Joe drove Yunita and me for dinner after work on last Friday. We were supposed to drove to JB for seafood but we can't knock off on time so.. we decided to settle our dinner in Singapore then. Joe brought us the famous teochew fishhead steamboat located at 1382 Serangoon Road. I was doubtful when he told me how good is the soup base until i really tried it.

The place was full house and we need to search our seats. We even need to walk into their kitchen to get our orders ordered. The staffs are superb busy serving and no time to entertain the clients. So in the end, the staff open a table for us behind the shop. We were like VIP!Our table is middle of the lorong! .
This is the first time i had my dinner such way.
This is one of the best teochew fishhead steamboat in Singapore based on reviews through social media.
The soup base plenty of savoury fish, the fish is fresh and the meat is soft, juicy and tender. They are served in charcoal aluminium steamboat pots. We can top up the soup but we called for twice but they did not top up for us :( Guess we are far apart from the shop because we are having our dinner middle of the back alley!!Hahaha!

We ordered Hae Zhou which has the combination of chunks of water chestnuts.Water chestnuts give lots of crunchy taste to the dish. This is a recommendation dish from reviews and i saw them on almost all the tables that night. So you can imagine how many hundreds or thousands of plate were sold for this particular dish on a day itself?

Vegetables are in our list as well. Czzar style of working really opens our appetite of eating as well.

We also ordered tofu with prawn and special sauce which is also used to serve crabs. I love the softness and tender of japanese tofu with the sauce.

Dinner was simple and nice. Definitely a good place to recommend for big group to have Czzar style. The steamboat soup base was fantastic except that the service was not that ideal. We need to self-service a bit because they are not going to bother you at all. They are busying rushing out the orders. One point that i want to highlight is that the food servings are quite fast within 20 minutes. This is because we ordered the common dishes as other tables. So people if you guys are dropping by for dinner and want to have the foods are fast enough to display on your table, you know what you should do :)

Sorry for the not so sharp photos. All photos taken using my iPhone 4s. As u can see back alley has no much lights and we can only rely on the street lamps. It was a good experience having the table set up at the centre of the alley and people walking pass and looking at our food.

Total spend for the dinner was around S$48++ not exceeding S$50 for 3 of us. Overall foods are good but not the services though. So don't expect much of their services when you decided to go for their foods.

One thing to take note is that once all the foods are served, customers are required to foot the bill first before they can enjoy the foods.

Restaurant Teck Sing @ Taman Sentosa

Dad decided to have paper baked chicken for dinner. So we headed to Teck Sing restaurant located at Taman Sentosa before headed to singapore. The place is full house and we need to secure our own seats and it took around 15 minutes to secure with seats.

The foods that we ordered that night. The serving time is approximately within 20 minutes and it was quite a speed despite full house. Simple dishes but it fills our stomach well.

Fried Eggs with bitter gourds which does not taste bitter when served hot.
RM12

Sambal Sotong @ RM10/ RM15
Fresh seafood and not that spicy though

My aunt's favourite. The sambal petai which i forget the price.

Curry Fish Head @ RM25
Simple homecook feel of curry fish head. It goes perfectly well with plain rice.

The specialty of paper baked chicken or we called it beggar chicken @ RM18.
Fresh tender kampong chicken with traditional herbal herbs and sauce wrapped with paper bag and baked several hours. The meat is tender and soft and you won't feel that it is kampong chicken.

One more plate of vegetable @ RM12

Dinner was simple and nice though. We had chit chatting session throughout the dinner. It is always nice to have family bonding together and sit down to have a dinner. Everyone is busy working and studying. It's always hard to have common time together. So we must cherish the moments that spent together.

Paradise Dynasty-"Xiao Long Bao"

There are reviews from bloggers' blogs about the famous and colourful xiao long bao. Finally got the chance to try. We headed over for dinner @ ION Orchard on Sunday. It was a long queue when we headed over for dinner. So we had to wait for a while before we managed to get a seat.

A must try signature dynasty dumplings S$13.80 for 8pcs.Each colour of dumplings bring out different flavors. From top, orange for crab roe, green for ginseng, white for classic, pink for szechuan, peach for foie grass, middle black for black truffle, yellow for cheese and lilac for garlic. There were served pipping hot clear broth. The taste wise is quite innovative and the skin is very thin. There is a little chewiness in the skin's texture. Overall is quite refreshing and taste is pretty alright but i won't queue and wait to have this.

Steamed Chive Dumplings in 6 pieces @ S$4.80
This dumplings' skin is slightly thick than the xiao long bao. The taste wise is fine and the fillings are quite rich.

My pick of that day: La Mian in Signature Pork Bone soup and Deep fried Pork Rib S$11.80.
It was surprisingly good for me especially deep fried pork rib. It was nicely deep fried pork rib. The softness of meat texture attracts my taste bud. The noodle's texture is springy and the soup base is compatible with the noodle.

La Mian in Signature Bone Soup with Deep fried Chicken Chop S$9.80.
The Deep fried chicken chop is served separately. The soup base is same as mine and the taste was pretty alright as well.

La Mian with Poached Marble Beef Style in szechuan style @ S$12.80
The soup base is extremely spicy and we cannot take it. I think it will be a good choice for spicy lover.

La Mian with shredded pork in sze chuan style and signature bone soup @ S$8.00
No much comment on this dish as all the La Mian soup base is the same.
Overall taste is pretty ok.

La Mian with Sliced Pork with signature pork base soup
The slice pork is thin and goes well with the compatible soup base.

Chilled Slice Pork with special sauce and minced garlic @ S$7.80
Love this dish. It is my favourite dish.
It is very appetizing and it goes well with the sauce.

Braised Pork Belly @ S$13.80
This is extremely rich with the fats and was well braised.
Love the texture of the pork belly soft and tender. The vegetables are appetizing as well.

Overall the service staffs are prompt and efficient. The servings were very fast and less than 20 minutes. So i believe the turnover sales for the restaurant is quite good. It's a decent place for dining. However i think i will not queue if the queue is long.
