China House @ Georgetown, Penang

It has almost 2 years since i step into Penang again. This time is for my friend's wedding which falls on 11th November. I booked my flight many months ago once i received notification from the buddy. I reached Penang one day earlier before the wedding. Boon Yi recommended me a nice place called China House which is located between Beach Street & Victoria Street. The amazing heritage old shop houses terrace place transformed into a cafe cum dine-in place & art gallery for customers.

I am amazed with the structures and the decorations of the place. It truly a colonial place which makes us feel so vintage and comfortable for leisure time. However, one thing to take note that the parking space is limited and you might have difficulties to find place to park your car. It's worth though to give it a try here and enjoyed the atmosphere and the ambiance of such a cosy place.

Each area of the place has different theme and the dinning areas option are available indoor and outdoor too. Too bad as i am using iPhone to take photos so spare me from my poor quality photos of the place.

We went there on 11th November which is happened to be Boon Yi's birthday. So we have a mini celebration. Just two of us only with a nice meal and companion. Each table is set up with white 'mahjong' papers. I even saw some of the customers drew on the papers so i requested for colour pencils from the staff. Guess what, i got the brand new crayon set. I was kinda happy to reminisce my favourite drawing session with colourful crayons. I drew a birthday cake on the papers.
Let the photos below do the talking:-

Chinese Pear Salad - RM30 per serving.
It's one of the popular salad which served with shaved parmesan, cranberries, coriander, cashews, red onions and crispy greens. I can taste the sweetness and sour taste from the combination. It makes my appetizing more appealing. I love the colours of the salad too.

Boon Yi's Beef Curry Spaghetti - RM28 per serving.
The presentation looks tempting to us. The beefball taste good. The meat is not tough and still manageable. I love the curry sauce made to accompany the spaghetti.

The recommendation drink- Gula Melaka Pistachio Shake -RM16
I don't really like it though because it is way too sweet for me. The taste is strong too. I can't take it and didn't finish them in the end :(

Boon Yi with the cake

Dessert always served after main course. We headed to the desserts area to pick the cakes we want. They served varieties of cakes and it looks good and taste good too in my point of view. We choose Banana Trutle Torte - RM15 per slice. It was 'huge' slice for us. The taste is fascinating. The sweetness of banana with the chocolate makes the overall taste bud feels satisfying.
After the lunch, we headed upstairs level 2 to see the art gallery. It was understand that there is different theme of art exhibition going on monthly. This time round we saw the circus art exhibition. I took some of the photos from the gallery and here I am sharing for your viewing pleasure.

Brunch with Antipodean @ Bangsar

We headed for brunch the next day noon to be exact. I finally get the chance to patronize Antipodean located at Bangsar Baru. I seen many good reviews through the website and looking forward to explore the culture cafe. The cafe has the similar concept like Wild Honey in Singapore. So, you can imagine the concept behind.

Antipodean - pronounced "an.tip.o.de.an" (adj) means:-
(1) coming from or relating to Australia or New Zealand
(2) Ancient Greek: anti "opposed" pous "foot" opposite points on the globe.

The cafe was already occupied by crowds and we are in the waiting list. We waited for approximately 15 minutes to get a seat. The queue is like never ending so you can imagine the business is booming.

Photos taken using Canon camera:-

Rare scene phone of Elaine & Me

The lists of foods & drinks menu are all scribbled with chalk across the board of the cafe wall. We have difficulties looking at the menu as the place is already crowded with people and we need to stand and turn our heads around up and down, here and there to see the available choices. It would be best to have the hard copy of the menu on hand so that we can flip it and choose carefully.

Mango Lassi @ RM10 which truly mango with thick fruit taste of drink

Iced Cappucino @ RM10

Iced Mocha @ RM19

Big Breakfast @ RM19 per serving. The combination of toast bacon with scrambled eggs and sauteed mushroom. The portion was just nice but it's overdose of scrambled eggs for me as i can't finish it all. Taste is as good as it looks. The scarmbled eggs are moist and buttery taste and i love to eat them with the grain bread.

Scrambled eggs salmon with toast @ RM19 per serving. The combination of the salmon with scrambled eggs to go with the fresh salads and grain bread does give a choice for salmon lover. It's the choice of Elaine as she loves salmon.

It's absolutely a decent choice to hop by if you are staying in KL. Such a rare opportunity to have lovely brunch with affordable price for whole day breakfast in KL. It is lovely to have gathering and bonding session with loved ones and friends but try not to have them over the weekend as it is surely packed with people and you just have to speak slightly louder to each other.

Asides to this, no reservations are allowed and only accept walk-in customers. The customers' turnover is quite fast so it's reasonable that no reservations are allowed. So be prepare to wait a while before getting seated for your lovely brunch

Bakerzin @ Yishun Northpoint

Short post before i continue with Bandun last post :)
Headed to Yishun for unfinished business with Seatfu yesterday after I back from JB. The timing was just nice for dinner and she wanted to treat me dessert.

So we headed to  Bakerzin. Menu list can be found from the website as well.
Since she needs to be back home for homecook dinner, I opt for Chef’s salad from the menu list. I am glad to choose this salad and it’s exceptionally refreshing and delicious for me. The combination was rather special than the ones that I had before.

Chef’s Salad @ S$13.50
Slivers of honey baked ham, roast beef, turkey, Spanish red onions, dried cranberries and walnuts tossed with a homemade dressing and topped with a hard-boiled egg. You can have the crunchy bites when u bite the walnuts, the lettuce with the baked ham, roast beef, turkey and the red onions blew me away. I don’t like the taste of the onions but the smell and taste of the onion is able to cover up with the combination. Totally not dried at all. Seatfu loves the walnuts especially.

Dessert is a must to cheer one’s mood. Especially chocolate as it is my favourite for all time. We decided to go for Warm Chocolate Cake @ S$11.50 per serving. The service staff informed us that the serving time takes approximately 10-15 minutes for this dessert.

It’s Bakerzin signature molten chocolate cake served with homemade vanilla ice-cream and fresh berries. The presentation is nice but not the vanilla ice-cream. It was melting when it is served. I believe that it has been placed a while before they served it out to us. The taste does not disappoint us though with the combination.

It was a pleasant dinner with great companion.
We had a good catch up session over the dinner.

Dean & Deluca Brunch

It was a fine Sunday noon where we decided to have our brunch at Dean & Deluca. (Ops..it was basically a week ago)I had heard about the reviews through the word of mouth and also website reviews. Finally i got the chance to curb my cravings and visual satisfaction on this fine day.

The deli cafe comes with the black and white theme and it makes the whole store and cafe a very clean and comfortable overall look. It was crowded with people and everyone was looking for seats when we reached there around 3pm. We need to hunt for empty seats as it is a self-service concept. We will need to order the foods and they will serve later.

Along the pathway towards the ordering counter and seats, there is a corner for grocery shoppings. They sell many range of ingredients and sauce for western cuisine.
It was a perfect place to shop around while waiting for the food to be served.
We ordered Americano coffee and Mango drink (forgotten the actual name of the drink).

Random photos of the items available in the racks.

All day breakfast: American breakfast which is a sumptous breakfast set.
Love the taste of the mashed potatoes and it is soft texture of the scrambled eggs. It was just nice portion for one.

They do sells wide range of pastry and you can order the pastry and enjoy a cup of coffee for tea time. It would be perfect for catch up session with friends.

Oh ya Yunita ordered New York Salmon with scrambled egg breakfast (not sure the exact name of the dish). She commented too salty for the smoked salmon but overall is just nice. The serving and the presentation is colourful under the perfect lights. It seems small in the photo but it actually fills up the stomach of a person.

It was a good experience to dine here except for queuing up and finding place to seat. The service staffs are quite friendly too. They always put a smile on their faces. I think it is a good working attitude they have here. I would definitely head over to try on other desserts and breakfast menu.

Sunday ended up with a therapy before headed back home for rest and start to work throughout the week.

Till then...
